Anne Garton/CHILDREN'S EBOOKS

Meet the Author’s and Illustrator’s behind Children’s eBooks

Anne Garton

CHILDREN’S EBOOKS was started in 2007 when a friend suggested to author Anne Garton that she should promote her illustrated classic children’s books online. CHILDREN’S EBOOKS has grown since then to offer a wide selection of best-selling Kindle books for children.

Anne trained as a science and social science teacher over 40 years ago at Rusden, Victoria College, now Deakin University. She presently works as a Special Education teacher at Craigslea State High School in Brisbane. Throughout her teaching, Anne has written science textbooks for both primary and secondary students and developed her CHILDREN’S EBOOKS as a hobby–when she isn’t playing golf!

Anne started her teaching career at Killester College in Springvale, Victoria, where she worked for nine years before traveling to London, England. While in London she became a nanny and tutored science for the General Certificate of Education. It was during this time that she began writing science textbooks. After returning to Australia, she accepted a position as Double Helix Science Officer for CSIRO, in Indooroopilly, Queensland, and wrote a science series for Heinemann (Pearson) in her spare time.

In 1996, Anne’s travels took her back to Victoria where she continued her teaching as Science Coordinator at Gleneagles College, Endeavour Hills. But with the Queensland sunshine always on her mind, she soon packed her bags again and moved permanently to Brisbane, becoming Head of Science at Aspley State High School.

After marrying and having two children, Anne decided not to continue in her full-time role at Aspley. Instead, she taught part-time at Earnshaw College, Banyo, before moving to Craigslea in 2006.

Throughout her teaching, Anne has continued to write for a variety of publishers, including Macmillan (now Matilda Education) where she co-authored numerous science texts with Ken Williamson.

With the wealth of experience Anne has in teaching, and writing for different age groups and abilities, her CHILDREN’S EBOOKS are stories that children will identify with and love.

Derek Garton

Derek Garton for CHILDREN’S EBOOKS

Derek Garton started illustrating CHILDREN’S EBOOKS when his daughter, Anne, sought his help. The first ebook Derek illustrated was The Wetlands.

Derek was born in England and started his career as a Commercial Artist. He drew ‘exploded’ views of agricultural machinery for parts-list publication. After service in the Royal Air Force, Derek left the art world to study general business management and eventually, emigrated to Australia with his wife and twin daughters. In Australia, he continued his management career until retirement.

Artwork had become a very occasional pastime until daughter Anne asked Derek to illustrate The Wetlands. He was both flattered and honored to be asked. Derek went on to illustrate Gypsy and Hotham, My Queensland and The Bicycle. He has written and illustrated A Day Out at Phillip Island and Fantastic Aussie Fauna.

Derek hopes that the children and parents who read his ebooks enjoy his stories and illustrations as much as he loved creating them.

Cailin Carrier

Cailin Carrier successfully completed Year 12 in 2007 studying art, chemistry, biology, maths B, English and sport. Cailin enjoyed art so much that when she was approached by Anne to illustrate a children’s story, she jumped at the opportunity.

Cailin lived in Melbourne until her family moved to Queensland in 1999. She finished Primary School at Eatons Hill State School and went to High School at Genesis Christian College. During this time Cailin completed many art projects for family and friends including wall murals and paintings.

Cailin studied a Bachelor of Health Science at QUT Kelvin Grove, qualifying as a paramedic. Her travels took her to Canada where she presently lives, works and continues her artwork. Mr Nobody’s Here was the first CHILDREN’S EBOOK Cailin illustrated displaying the incredible artistic talent that she has. Her follow-up ebook, The Footballer is just as beautiful.

Leigh Brown

Leigh Brown for CHILDREN’S EBOOKS

From a very early age, I have been fascinated by picture books. There was Asterix, to illustrated history graphic texts along with the traditional children’s books. Kimba and Astro Boy were animated stories with a style that excited me and opened up a whole new world. So it was no real surprise that I spent more time illustrating covers for my book reports at school than I did writing the content.

Through photography, graphic design and multimedia, my career path has always had a sidetrack of illustration jobs. These have included a children’s book, culminating in working for an educational publisher. I could not believe I was actually being paid to draw all day!

I have illustrated Backyard Cricket and Patchy Scratchy for CHILDREN’S EBOOKS.

Rebecca Hughes

When I was 5 my mother took me to our local library to take out my very first book! I chose a Spike Milligan children’s book with a very hairy cats bottom on the cover. I thought it was so funny I had to read THAT book, thus beginning a lifelong love affair with art, books, and funny pictures.

Rebecca has illustrated The Bully, The Skier and The Planets for CHILDREN’S EBOOKS.
